United States Johnny Pistolas is definitely the place to be if you like Mexican style brunch. That's a deal you can't beat! I enjoyed almost everything I ate was great. My favorites were the Bacon and egg quesadilla, chicken and waffles, and the mini donuts. The chilaquiles deserve an honorable mention because that beef barbacoa was sooo delicious. It was like eating pot roast on a taco. So tender and so flavorful! The guacamole and queso unfortunately needed more love.
I went for my birthday and I got the Johnny Pistolas special, a large churro, shaped like a penis The service was great wonderful also. Our waitress was on top of everything we needed. My only gripe would be the smell of piss in the hallway on the way to the bathroom and the lack of napkins in the stall. It they could keep up the the bathroom conditions, this place would be gold.
I came here with my sister for her birthday. Man, was it delicious! We had a variety of foods that I have since forgotten the names of, but everything I tasted was excellent. The hero of the entire brunch was the pulled braised beef.
Tender, flavorful, melt in your mouth kind of good! The service was also great. Our waitress was very attentive and the food just kept coming. The only thing keeping this from bring a 5 star review is the bathroom odor, and the fact that this odor didn't even start in the bathroom.
It smelled of urine in the corador that led to the men's and women's restroom. This corador was also in close proximity to the kitchen. There was also a lack of paper towels in the women's restroom, which would have been fine if there was a hand dryer available.. Overall, this is a place I would recommend.
The smell if urine apparently doesn't bother everyone. The food is good and so are the drinks! Nice place for a Saturday night out. They have a pretty big dance area and a decent sized bar. My main issue was that the ground was soooo sticky that my shoes kept getting stuck and I almost fell because I couldn't move my feet - it was that bad!
I assume someone must've seriously spilled some drinks and no one cleaned it up. It was still relatively early and empty so they had the time and space to be able to clean it and didn't, which was a little disappointing. But the drinks were good, the staff was nice and sociable and funny and it still seems like a fun place so I'll definitely go again Another rendition of Taco Tuesday! When I first arrived, the host that greeted me was very friendly.
I went to the bar first while waiting on someone else to arrive. The marg that I got was great - and the price too, for not being happy hour.
The tacos that we ordered were 2 pollo asado, 1 baja fish, 1 blackened shrimp, and 1 chorizo. I ate the pollo asado tacos, and to be honest, I've had better. The poblano peppers gave some flavor, but the chicken didn't taste that it was seasoned very well and a bit dry. I would still come back and give this place a try, but I'd have to try a different taco. This is one of the better tacos I've had in DC. The blackened shrimp had a sprinkling of seasonings at best barely blackened but the fish was very good.
The street corn was very flavorful as well. I loved the simple ingredient Margarita which was on the rocks and frozen which was a plus! Johnny Pistola's is the brunch spot you never knew you needed!
When I brunch here I almost always do the Bruncharia menu. Queso, guac, gorditas, quesadillas, chicken and waffles -- everything you could ever want for brunch brought to you, wave after wave. I really love the bacon and egg quesadilla. There's this amazing cream sauce they drizzle on it that takes the flavor to places you'd never expect. The chicken and waffles tasted so fresh, you could tell the chicken was pulled straight from the fryer and not sitting under a heat lamp.
Every time I've been here with a large group, the staff has been super accommodating and they take reservations online, which is super helpful. Did I mention that brunch ends in churros and mini doughnuts?
Do yourself a favor and do weekend brunch here, you won't regret it! I got invited here from a friend for my bday and this place was wonderful! Food was the bomb and drinks were on point! The bartender Jordan was superb, great host and good conversation! Definitely will be back, might try the brunch next time. We made a reservation and promptly arrived on time. We announced our name to host and manager, Jonathan, who was also standing there. He seemed confused but after a brief conversation with the hostess, took us upstairs.
There was no table upstairs to accommodate us so they started to seat up in a dark area which looked dusty and dirty.
I think the manager saw the dissatisfaction on our faces and told us to wait a minute. The bartender upstairs tried to reassure us stating, "Just give us a minute, we'll get you a table set up, up here and we'll have some fun". We were seated and Will tried with a soft spoken voice in a loud restaurant to explain the concept their bottomless Bruncharia.
We asked for disposable cups. Further, other tables who were seated after us were getting things that we ordered. I don't know if Will wasn't putting in the orders or what was happening.
When Savannah and Jonathan got involved food magically appeared. If I had see the bathrooms before we ate I would not have eaten there. Sadly, no one told me where the bathrooms were, I just headed toward the back of the restaurant and began to smell urine.
Thank God the photos are scratch and smell. FOOD If you have a strong stomach and are willing to brave, the cleanliness of this place and the wait, I have to say that some of the food was good. However, it is troublesome that the cups, pitchers, bathroom display that their staff doesn't know how to clean. The chicken and waffles were okay, the chicken without the waffles would be perfect as the waffle was soggy. The Churros were overdone. Glad I consumed before I went to the bathroom, while going to the bathroom nearly made me ill.
She stepped in when our server Will neglected us and seemed simply overwhelmed. Savannah always came through with our requests and was prompt to make sure we had what we requested. The food was great! Everything was fresh and hot! The food servings were perfect for what your ordering and came super fast.
We were sitting on the patio area and once the sun was shinning they brought out umbrellas, which was a nice touch. She was attentive to us the whole time even tho she had other tables and we never had to ask her for a refill of anything!
Plus, the owner came and talked to us and was very sweet! I already can't wait to come back! This Place is horrible service is rude they guy that's my waiter never came to check to see if my food was ok or anything I had to flag him down after 30 min of sitting with nothing to drink.
I asked for the Manager a very young guy came over and I explained to him my frustration he didn't say a word regarding what I was saying not even an apology for the bad service nothing.
I then had to flag a bust boy down just to let him know I'm not satisfied with my food the so called manager took 22min to return to my table even after I already spoke to him prior you'd think he'd move with some since of urgency but no not at all I don't believe I spoke with a manager at all he just sent someone to my table. The tacos were horrendously dry I was at Johnny's last night for a zoo fundraising event in the upstairs bar area.
The bar service was great, the party food platters were amazing- the Taquitos were worth the whole trip out in the rain. Its a great spot and I look forward to going back and trying more of the tacos. This place is totally cool if you're looking to have a boozy brunch and enjoying your food is optional. It's totally bottomless so if you like something, you can keep ordering more. I wasn't too thrilled by anything, but the Gordita and the gauc were both something I'd get again.
Both of those dishes were appetizers, so that says how good everything else is. Stay away from the chicken and waffles, the meat was pink and the waffle was soggy. Also stay way from the hangover cure, because the biscuit was hard as a rock and we waited 20 minutes for it.
It was weird because they just started bringing us out food we didn't ask for or already ordered, so we ended up wasting a lot totally not our fault and had to remind the servers what we actually wanted. They said the chef just sends out dishes he reccommeds, but I suppose they don't double check to see if the guests already had it and nothing came in a particular order.

The real star of the drinks turned out to be the sangria, offered in red or white. These were perfectly garnished with lemon, lime, mint, and rosemary.
