Louisville Orchestra Launches Third Annual Festival of American Music February 23, Now in its 80th anniversary season — and its fourth under the galvanizing leadership of Teddy Abrams, the youngest Music Director of a major American orchestra — the Louisville Orchestra embarks this spring on its third annual Festival of American Music, a celebration of homegrown composition, cross-genre collaboration, and local Louisville talent.
An enormous undertaking that accomplishes an absolutely thrilling result. Each carefully crafted arrangement shows off the instrument gloriously and displays the fullest emotional and musical range I've ever heard in a single person's multi-track recording.
Every part; soprano, alto, through tenor, bass and contrabass is exquisitely performed and the blend of the parts is simply awesome. Jim's performance is world class.
He effortlessly and flawlessly hauls off what were originally string, woodwind, horn and trumpet parts! This recording is destined to become a classic among trombonists and introduces non-trombonists to the technical and musical possibilities way beyond what most people associate with our instrument.
Your recording will inspire trombonists all over the world and remind us all why we love to make music! When I first heard his overdubs on Soundcloud, I was blown away. Now he has released a second version recorded on better microphones and with expanded depth.
There are moments in this recording where I am speechless. Please reserve a recording ASAP to support Jim and to expand what you thought was possible on the trombone. Jim's playing is sheer excitement, as he remains true to this music. He brought out my Star Wars inner kid, and will definitely make you want to practice! Bravo, Jim, on an incredible project years in the making. What an immense effort. What a true joy to experience!
With the range from a contrabass tuba to a piccolo trumpet, the sound, dexterity, intensity and expressiveness is only matched by the quality of the arrangements.
This just sounds tremendous! Jim is a former colleague in the Pacific Symphony season. I have known for some time what a great trombonist, musician and good guy he is. That said, this exceeds my already high expectations.
Speaking as someone who has performed on a variety of low brass instruments, it's bad enough he plays alto, tenor, bass and contrabass very nice, BTW , but soprano?! I'm running out of exclamation points!
